Dioxide-TiO2 – Manufacturing process of Titanium Dioxide
Titanium dioxide is manufactured through either the sulfate process or the chloride process. The primary raw materials include ilmenite (FeO/TiO2), naturally occurring rutile, or titanium slag. The process converts impure TiO2 feedstock into an easily purified intermediate, separates impurities, and then converts it back to pure TiO2.
Ilmenite concentrate (FeTiO3)
The primary raw material in titanium dioxide production is ilmenite concentrate (FeTiO3), obtained through mining and processing. Ilmenite is an ore consisting chemically of a mixture of oxides, predominantly titanium and iron oxides.
Titanium slag
The second most significant raw material for TiO2 manufacturing is titanium slag, which contains 75-90% TiO2 and 5-7% FeO.
